Isolated from the regular touristy clamour of Nainital, Pangot is a refreshing change for those who are looking for some serenity. The Kilbury Road from Nainital leads up to the alluring hills of Pangot from where a spectacular view of the Kumaon and Garhwal snow clad range and the valleys, foothills & parts of Corbett National Park emerges. As a young trekker from school, Siddarth always dreamt of an adventurous life in Pangot. After years, a persuasive Sid bought some land on top of a hill from a neighbouring farmer. After a modest beginning with some tents, Mountain Quail now has a Lodge consisting of four comfortable ‘cottage style’ suites. Each suite has a bedroom and bathroom, common sitting area as well as large outdoor patios. Each corner is tastefully set up to complement each other. In addition to the lodge there are three Mountain Log Cabins with attics and verandahs overlooking the forest, as well a few Safari Tents with attached baths. The rooms and cabins are named after the birds found in the region and there is plenty of space to lie back, relax, and just enjoy the surroundings! Set amidst Oak, Rhododendron and Deodar forests, and overlooking the snow-clad Himalaya, this is an ideal getaway for those who wish to explore pristine mountain wilderness.
There is a central glass walled dining room- The Mountain Chiffchaff, which houses a Bukhara (fireplace); a definite requirement for winters. Kumaoni meals are a must for visitors to get the palette acquainted with the local food. The brilliant food is an additional complimentary treat with the fantastic view from the Lodge. Adjoining the estate is a forest that is full of birds and wildlife and in spring this woodland is a mass of red as Rhododendron trees come into flower.
Though Bernie and Jojo, the couple’s two dogs pretty much reign the camp, owners can bring pets after discussion.
