The story of the famous Dr. Stevens and his daughter, Emily, who featured in many books of Jim Corbett, still lingers in the oak forests of Nainital. Neighbour to Jim Corbett in his summer house of Nainital (Gurney House), the doctor lived in the country for many years. It is easy to drift into a long colonial history, in the very same house of the celebrated doctor, while you watch the clouds fill the valley. The house was renamed Emiily Lodge by Rewah and Yogi, when they took it upon themselves to bring back the glory of the 167 year house about an year ago. Keeping the aesthetics intact, the house is now refurbished with modern facilities blending in perfectly with the colonial architecture. Poster beds, furniture from the 1800s and the fireplaces of the house, make this an inimitable boutique stay. Old trophies, antique lamps, porcelain and fixtures from Rewah's own home tastefully and creatively balance the colonial aesthetics of the house. While one has all the luxuries at hand, the most memorable part of the stay is the warm hospitality by the couple, who have been in the hills of Kumaon for the last 15 years.
Rewah's own lineage of the royal family ensures that you get an exquisite experience. Her interest and education in architecture, interior design and food adds upto offering an exclusive stay with a variety of cuisines ranging from Burmese to French. A restaurant is due to be launched soon as well. Yogi, on the other hand, is a trained Yoga teacher. Bringing in a spiritual and healthy approach to the stay, he has started a de-stress programme for those who want a break from city life and submerge in the peaceful aura of the mountains. Hygiene and comfort are prime on both Rewah and Yogi's mind while entertaining guests.
