The home of the Kuruvinakunnels is custom-made for those who like to live in the lap of luxury. The sprawling homestay, which covers 20 acres, is the epitome of opulence. It is perhaps one of the only residential properties in the region with a large swimming pool on its grounds. Among its many unique aspects are three aviaries, which are home to chirping lovebirds, a purple heron and the mythological bird, Krishna Parinda. The home’s grandeur and creativity can be seen in the lavish interiors, intricate woodwork adorning the walls, gold-plated cutlery and an innovative ‘marble’ courtyard. The two spacious guest rooms within the home are serene, charming and share the home’s ambience with many personalised details. Two inner rooms have beautifully designed bathrooms, complete with small zen gardens and skylights. Meenachil Enclave’s two other guest rooms, situated in the outhouse, are simpler in design but offer a sense of tranquility to their occupants. The family, which owns large paddy fields and successful plantations, also runs a hotel in Thrissur. And after a recent facelift, they conceived the idea of turning their ancestral home into a homestay. Meenachil Enclave is managed essentially by Jose who has a background in management. His soft-spoken mother, Mariamma ensures the smooth functioning of the kitchen while Jose Sr. oversees the functioning of the homestay and enjoys exciting exchanges with guests. Besides the Kuruvinakunnels and the exotic birds, many animals, such as rabbits, cows, calves, dogs, hens and guinea pigs, call Meenachil Enclave their home. A wide variety of flowers are grown in their greenhouses and plantation walks are a favourite amongst guests. But, the homestay’s most prestigious feature is its pool. It’s a delightful place to not only shake off the stress with a long swim but also to enjoy an unforgettable poolside dinner. Guests particularly enjoy bonding with the family over a night of bar-be-queing.
