The magnificent home of Mr. Pradyuman Singh has a history as beautiful as its architecture. In 1744, the land was given to his family by the royals of the region as reward for their bravery. The oldest portion of homestay is over 2 centuries old. But Chandelao's revival began in 1996, once Pradyuman returned to the village after staying in Assam for many years and undertook extensive renovations.
Today, the homestay has 17 lavish guest rooms all with large en-suite baths, ACs and even a sitting area. Many common areas are available to guests; tables and chairs are kept outside all rooms, in the verandahs, and on the sun-soaked terraces. The home has two dining areas, one is a lovely open air arrangement on the terrace and the other is in the courtyard of the main house. Meals are served here in the form of a traditional buffet. Mr. Singh's extremely efficient staff deserves a special mention. The homestay also serves as means to bring prosperity to the village while preserving nature. Praduman is actively involved in developing the village; women in the village make beautiful crafts that are sold on the property to supplement their incomes. Eco friendly resources are employed in the homestay's operations; solar power is used for heating water and used bath water helps irrigate the lawns. Stone walls keep the rooms naturally cosy regardless of the temperature outside.
Chandelao is 40 kms from Jodhpur. Interaction with villagers, shopping for crafts made by the village women and morning walks are popular amongst guests. Star gazing and lazing around are other preferred activities. Constellations, galaxies and shooting stars are brightly on display for guests of the home. Silence is all pervasive and highly conducive for relaxation. Rejuvenating massages perfectly top off the experience.
