Getting up in the morning to listen to chirping of birds and peacock calls, to fill in your lungs with fresh fragrance of farms around and to enjoy the day as it moves at its slow pace is what a rural experience in Punjab is all about. Deep Roots Retreat promises all this and more. It is owned by Mr. KJS Brar and his wife Kanwaljit Brar since 2003. Around 26 kms away from Chandigarh, capital of Punjab, the homestay is situated enroute from Chandigarh to Shimla and other Himalayan destinations. KJS Brar and Kanwaljit love meeting with new people and make guests comfortable with a home-like atmosphere. Kanwaljit is more on the creative side and responsible for beautiful interiors of the home. KJS Brar on the other hand, is fond of agriculture and takes care of farming in 25 acres of farmland around. Having traveled extensively within India and abroad, the hosts have many interesting experiences to share. Deep Roots Retreat more or less reminds one of period homes which have lot of character. The kind of old fashioned cottages one desires to have in countryside. The tranquil atmosphere, nostalgic smell of land, brings to mind thoughts, and memories of a time when life just ran that little bit slower. The accommodation for guests includes four spacious rooms, with attached bathrooms. The homestay is well ventilated with many large windows in each room, which also give a scenic view or the farmland around. The homestay has a well-maintained front garden and a large terrace on the backside. The most attractive area in the house is the living room which is designed in 19th century Victorian theme. Its colorful drapes, rugs, small glass and porcelain showpieces, plus framed embroideries on the walls provide for an ideal atmosphere to relax or have interesting conversations. The cuisine served is basically is Punjabi style cooking. The meals include Indian breads, aromatic Basmati Rice with a choice of Chicken and Mutton dishes. Dum Biryani, both Chicken and Mutton is our signature dish. For the vegan we have farm-fresh vegetables cooked Indian style. Due to its proximity, Chandigarh becomes an interesting spot to explore in terms of shopping, entertainment, town planning, beautiful gardens and markets. Other than Chandigarh, those interested in exploring the religious spots can make a short trip to Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib or the famous Golden temple. To live amidst the expanse of rural village of Punjab, and experience the simplicity of its lifestyle, come and abode in Deep Roots Retreat.
