Polaycad Estate; one of the finest coffee estate in Coorg is located between the towns of Siddapur and Virajpet. It is about 110 kilometers from Mysore. Set in the midst of the 140-acre Polaycad Estate is the Polaycad Bungalow; an estate bungalow run by the Cariappas.
The Polaycad Bungalow was built way back in 1929. Over the years, this sprawling estate bungalow has undergone many changes that have shaped the property to what it is today. The spruced up bungalow features four spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a dinning hall and a beautiful verandah that overlooks a well manicured lawn. The Polaycad Bungalow is surrounded by a river on one side and a coffee estate on the other. When the coffee bushes blossom, the air is filled with the heady fragrance of the snow white flowers.
The gracious hosts- Robin Cariappa and Mallige opened their beautiful home to visitors a few years back. From the moment a guest steps into the Polaycad Bungalow, he or she will feel the warmth of the traditional Kodava hospitality of the hosts.
Robin Cariappa has been in the plantation business for the past 25 years. He spent his early years at a tea plantation in Kerala before returning to his native land. Robin, incidentally, is an avid golfer. He can take his guests for a round of golf at Pollibetta (a 30-minute drive from the Polaycad Bungalow) which has an excellent 9-hole golf course.
Mallige Cariappa is interested in gardening and cooking. She also loves showing her guests how to wrap a sari in true Coorg style. The sari draping style of Coorg is unique in itself where the pleats are made at the back instead of front as in the rest of India.
Those who want to have a true taste of an estate life in Coorg with a dash of traditional Kodaga hospitality need look no further- the Polaycad Bungalow is one such place.
