In the upper quarters of the house, Raman Saigal lives with his wife Sangeetha and three children. Despite the fact that this is essentially the house of a traditional “joint family”, where members of the same family continue to live with each other, there is no sense of overcrowding in the large house.
Sangeetha has designed the rooms with a sophisticated European feel and antique furniture: there is are either rooms in the top floor which centre around the comfortable family sitting room, or a downstairs room next to a guests’ kitchen and elegant lobby which can be rented out as a suite. The young couple is sociable and friendly; they are great to talk to and are experts on life in Delhi, telling you all sorts of fashionable and interesting places to go. They have done a lot of traveling and are the quintessential cool modern couple, keeping a hospitable but informal relationship wit their guests.
The beautiful roof garden is an excellent place to survey the local area and relax in style, maybe reading one of the books from the family’s very up to date collection of Indian authors. The surrounding wide residential streets with walls covered in bright flowers lead to the cosmopolitan hub of South Extension where there are plenty of shops, nightlife and restaurants. You might equally want to stay in for a family meal with the Saigals on the floodlit roof garden and to start the day doing yoga before tackling the sights of Delhi…

Delhi
Nehru once famously described Delhi as “the symbol of old India and new”. The present Delhi has evolved from eight successive cities starting from 1060 AD and with British built New Delhi becoming the capital in 1911. The most prominent influences left in Delhi today are the Mughal influence in Old Delhi, with famous monuments such as the Red Fort. ....[read more]
