LOCATION
Yercaud is located near Salem in Tamil Nadu's Servarayan range at an altitude of 1,500 meters.

HISTORY
Stone-age implements were discovered near the Pagoda Point. It is located 5 kms from the beautiful Yercaud lake. But today's Yercaud was discovered by the British in the early 19th century who soon introduced coffee plantations to the area. The cool climate also drew Christian missionaries who many convent schools. In October 1997, Yercaud was established as a Taluk.

ATTRACTIONS
Yercaud's highest point is the Servarayan temple, which is perched at a height of 5326 feet. The hills here are rich with fauna and flora, which includes bison, deer, rabbits, hares, and many others. The Yercaud Lake is surrounded by well-groomed gardens and thick trees. One of the best views that Yercaud can offer is at the Lady's Seat. Panoramic view of the ghats and beyond can be seen from here. Stargazing is a lovely experience at the Lady's Seat. The Kiliyur Falls in yercaus fall from a majestic height of 90 feet and is popular amongst visitors.

CUISINE
Fresh and juicy fruits and vegetables are popular amongst people. Appams with sweetened coconut milk, upmas, dosas and other such delicacies are great ways to start and end the day.

LANGUAGE
The regional language is Tamil. But many people particularly those associated with tourism speak or understand English.
