LOCATION
Trivandrum is the anglicized name of Thiruvananthapuram. It is located on India's west coast near the extreme south of the country. It is the largest and most populous city in Kerala and the state's capital. Important distances are Thekkady - 272 km, Kanniyakumari- 87 km and Quilon -72 km.

HISTORY
Thiruvananthapuram's history can be traced back to 1000 BCE. It is believed that King Solomon's fleet landed here in 1036 BCE. The city served as an important trading post but its political and cultural history was independent from rest of Kerala. Rise of modern Thiruvananthapuram began in 1729 and in Thiruvananthapuram was made the capital of Travancore in 1745. Today it is a major IT ub of India and is host of many proud universities.
