This was the only route to the Nilgris from Coimbatore until 1832.

ATTRACTION Ooty or Udagamandalam is a beautiful hillstation in south India. it is carpeted by lush greenery and fairly untouched landscapes. But a big part of the location is the journey. The mountainous toy train journey starting from Mettupalayam is an experience unique to the region. The train chugs along tons of tunnels, deep and passes blessed greenery. Ooty was made famous for its many tea estates, mountains, forest, and grasslands. But today, there are many tourism driving festivals which draw and entertain people.

CUISINE
The regional cuisine is simple and light. The day is full of snacking on fresh fruits. The vegetables are usually locally grown and add a lively freshness to the meal. Due to the nippy air, alcohol plays a big part in the evening.
