LOCATION
Ooty also called Udhagamandalam has been dubbed the "Queen of hill stations". It is the capital of Nilgiris district. It is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level.

HISTORY
Ooty used to be a popular summer and weekend getaway for Britishers during the colonial days. It was dubbed as "Queen of Hill Stations" by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Ooty's botanical paradise was first brought by John Sullivan, in 1819. In March 1819, John Sullivan obtained Rs 1,100 for laying a bridle path up the hill from Sirumugai to Kotagiri and its neighboring village. The work was executed by McPherson in 2. This was the only route to the Nilgris from Coimbatore until 1832.

LANGUAGE
Major languages spoken here are Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and English. Though, clearly, the last two are less common. ATTRACTION Ooty or Udagamandalam is a beautiful hillstation in south India. it is carpeted by lush greenery and fairly untouched landscapes. But a big part of the location is the journey. The mountainous toy train journey starting from Mettupalayam is an experience unique to the region. The train chugs along tons of tunnels, deep and passes blessed greenery. Ooty was made famous for its many tea estates, mountains, forest, and grasslands. But today, there are many tourism driving festivals which draw and entertain people.

CUISINE
The regional cuisine is simple and light. The day is full of snacking on fresh fruits. The vegetables are usually locally grown and add a lively freshness to the meal. Due to the nippy air, alcohol plays a big part in the evening.
