Location
Maharashtra is a huge state and it’s located on the western side of India. Mumbai is the most important city of the state and Goa is located just 580 kms from Mumbai. Sindhudurg is the southernmost district of Maharashtra and stretches for about 125 kilometers along the Arabian Sea. Kashid is 30 kms from Alibaug and 160 kms form Mumbai.

History
Maharashtra recorded history dates back to 2nd century BC when the first Buddhist caves were built here. In 7th century, in the accounts Huan Tsang the word “Maharashtra” appears for the first time. The first Hindu King ruled the state in the 6th century from Badami. Shivaji Bhosle funded the Maratha Empire and fought the Mughals all his life. By 1680, the most influential kinf of the region, Shivaji died. At this time nearly the entire Deccan region was a part of his empire. He was succeeded by Sambhaji and a period of instability followed. In 1803, with the fall of Ahmednagar fort the British supremacy began in the Deccan. In 1804, their military rule was established. The state of Maharashtra was carved in 1960.

Festivals
Goa's Carnival is world famous and it starts in February. It is a major draw for travelers. New Year celebrations and Christmas are a major occasion.

Cuisine
Sea food is naturally a local favourite. Konkani style of cooking is prominent. Street food is easily available which includes snacks like sandwiches, omlettes, rice based dishes etc. Refreshing and fresh coconut water is a delight.

Language
Marathi is the local language and Konkani is popular. But English, Hindi are commonly spoken and understood.
