Fatehgarh Sahib
LOCATION
One of the twenty districts in Punjab, Fatehgarh Sahib district has its headquarters in the city of Fatehgarh Sahib.
HISTORY
‘Fatehgarh' means Town of Victory. It is so names because in 1710 Banda Bahadur conquered the fort built by Balban. The city is important largely for the Sikhs as it is a living witness to their history. In December 1705, Sri Guru Gobind Singh's two sons were entombed here alive by Wazir Khan. The mother of Guru Gobind Singh and his two younger sons were cremated here as well. History suggests that the corrupt Wazir Khan, who was the governor of Sirhind refused to allow their cremation till the land was bought by carpeting it with gold coins. Todar Mal, a member of the royal court and devotee of Guru Gobind Singh purchased the place of land for their cremation. In Sanghol one finds site of the ancient Harappan civilisation. These artifacts are housed in the Sanghol Museum.

ATTRACTIONS
The city is most famous for the Fatehgarh Sahib Gurudwar. This is a place of great religious importance for Sikhs. Here, the sons of Guru Gobind Sahib were bricked alive by the then governor. Witnesses of the ancient Harrappan civilization are preserved at the Sanghol Museum. Monuments of importance are the Aam Khas Bagh, Ustad di Manaar and Shaagird di Manaar.
CUISINE
The district's economy depends upon agriculture. Wheat and Rice are the main crops grown here and the region has a rich cuisine. Makke ki roti and sarso ka saag is the state's signature dish and a tall glass of lassi is its perfect complement.
